Northern Cyclones
Ex-Cyclone Carriere offers First Contact Hockey Service for former team
The Northern Cyclones are the first to celebrate with a player after they commit to a college – it means both the player’s and the Cyclones’ mission is a success.
Sometimes, this player-organizational relationship is so strong that former players come back to help the next wave make their dreams come true.
Brett Carriere Played for four years with the University of Maine from 2006- 2010, suiting up for 74 games with the Black Bears after a successful junior career with the Cyclones. Now, he is the Director of First Contact Hockey Services, and the Cyclones are the first beneficiaries of the program – the services of FCHS will be included with every Cyclones junior player’s tuition this season.
First Contact Hockey Services is a personal advisory and coaching service focused on guiding enthusiastic hockey players at the minor and junior levels towards their athletic and educational goals. The staff at FCHS will work sideby- side with each of the Cyclones’ athletes and parents to develop a customized plan, which identifies critical steps and helps guide the student-athletes towards achieving their dream of playing college hockey.
First Contact Hockey Services begins with the situational assessment, which includes an interview with the athlete and family and an exploration of the studentathlete’s education and athletic goals.
As part of the vision analysis, FCHS helps to determine any “obstacles” to a player achieving their goals.
With the situational and vision analysis complete, FCHS can then prepare the student for the college recruitment and application process.
This includes marketing to the coaches that the player has the potential academically and athletically to excel at, informing those colleges of the player’s practice and game schedule and following up to help develop a strong coach-player relationship.
With that established, FCHS will help guide the student-athletes and their parents through academic planning, including familiarizing the players with the minimum GPA and SAT scores to meet NCAA Clearinghouse requirements.
The service will also help to enforce great academic habits to help maintain top grades throughout the school year, and FCHS will also provide SAT guidance to help optimize each player’s score.
When the time comes for the studentathlete to go on an official or unofficial visit, FCHS will help secure the visit and deal with any logistical or regulatory issues on your behalf under the guidelines of the league in which that team plays.
The service works with the player right up to, and through, the offer process. With the help of an alum, Cyclones players are in good hands all along the college recruitment highway.
