Confidence is high for Jr. Wolfpack teams

Expectations this year for both of the Connecticut Jr. Wolfpack teams are very high within the organizational office.

The Wolfpack believe both the Jr. A team (playing in the Atlantic Junior League) and the Jr. B team (playing in the Metropolitan Junior League) will bring a lot of talent, grit and hard work to the rink every day.

On both squads, the personalities of the kids seem to be coming together very well. They played in the Northern Cyclones’ Next Level Tournament and in the Eastern Junior Summer Showcase in July (see below).

“Our Jr. A and B teams should be very strong, as we have a great group of returning veterans combining with an exciting group of newcomers in both locker rooms,” said Jr. Wolfpack assistant coach Mark Yates. “We expect the newcomers to be able to produce at a high level, and to keep up with our veterans.”

“With our skill, speed and physical play, we are really looking forward to this upcoming season. We think we can skate with everyone, hit with everyone, and even play the finesse game with anyone,” added head coach Chris Cerrella. “Both of our teams are similar in that they are both deep enough in talent where we can play any style and be successful. I really look forward to working with these kids, and seeing how this season goes.

“The most exciting part is that we are filling our rosters with not only talent from across the country and world, but with kids that have come up in our own organization,” Cerrella said.

Off-season tournament time:

After winning the Northern Cyclones’ Next Level Tournament over the July 16- 18 weekend, the Wolfpack moved on to play in the Eastern Junior League’s Summer Showcase the very next weekend.

The Jr. A Wolfpack didn’t fare as well, but the B team won 10 straight games between the Cyclones tournament and the EJHL Summer Showcase. Their only loss over the two weekends came against the Apple Core Jr. B team.

“The Jr. B team lost a heartbreaker in the semifinals,” said Yates. “Also, the Jr. A team, despite being short a number of players from the actual team, competed with the [EJHL’s] Jr. Monarchs and some other quality teams.”
